Amid ongoing protests over the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singhhas asked Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to ensure that there is sense of security among the people in the national capital.
Dr. Singh asked Shinde to take all adequate steps to stop recurrence of rape events.
Shinde on his part briefed the Prime Minister over the ongoing protests turning violent on Rajpath, near the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh today appealed to the young protesters to show restraint and assured that strictest action would be meted out to the accused in the gang-rape case.
Hundreds of young students marched towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan here demanding justice for the gang-rape victim. Former Army Chief General (Retd.) V.K. Singh joined the protestors at the India Gate.
The young students, who marched through Rajpath towards Raisina Hill where Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister's Office and Home Ministry are located. They broke the security cordon erected on Rajpath and managed to reach near Raisina Hills where they were stopped.
The girl, who, is presently being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital here, is said to 'psychologically stable'.
